Zippo Challenge

THE MONO-CHROMATIC/ LIMITED PALETTE

I found this challenge posted by Michael Naples on the Daileypaintworks Challenge website and thought it interesting. You can achieve a wide range of colors and values using only 3 tubes of paint.

Using ONLY 3 colors , Burnt Sienna, ultramarine blue and Titanium white, paint this lighter OR PAINT THE COFFEE CREAMER ABOVE.

hint: Draw it very carefully first. and map out the value shapes.

Feel free to change in any way Size and Placement (Zoom in zoom out) have it lit , if you wish.

The "FORMULA"

You need to compose a series of pictures that use the Formula , a method of composition used since the 15th cen. and post them on your blog. These will result in 1. a drawing in your book to plan 2. a large scale work.

THE FORMULA is... 1. something leads your eye into the painting 2. to the main figure of focus to 3. an escape hatch of a window or door that lets you out of the picture.

you can do ths 2 ways. take your pictures seated in a car or in a doorway.

DUE FRIDAY

a two page spread will be started on Friday. Be ready, with paint and canvas(or doors), to begin on Monday.

Holiday Homework

O Joy! O Rapture! but this is an easy one. Take pictures of your living room SAME VANTAGE PT. before Christmas morning and After. 2 shots. Order/ Dis- order, Before/After, wherever you celebrate. You may include people as long as the shots are not posed. Post side by side on your blog.

Instead of socks or underwear some art supplies would really be nice. I could even paint a picture for the family room! Here is a list of possible things I could use:

First choice could be an oil painting kit of some kind or you could get individual colors as follows: KITS RUN AROUND $50

OIL PAINT 1.25oz to 6.75oz.(200ml) The bigger the tube the longer it lasts.

DUO AQUA BRAND---GRUMBACHER –MAX ARTIST BRAND ALL GOOD!

COLORS:

· Cadmium yellow

· Alizarine crimson

· Permanent green light. or sap green

· Lemon yellow

· Cadmium red

· Cerulean blue

· Ultramarine blue

· Titanium white (2) or large 200ml tube

· Yellow ocher

· Burnt sienna

· 4-6 brushes sizes 2,4,6,8,10 (Filbert style my favorite) you should already have these

CANVAS PANELS options: one LARGE canvas (36 in on one side) OR a hollow core door any size or width.
